Skills and Competencies

The Insurance Brokers Association of Canada has identified specific skills and abilities required to practice effectively as an insurance broker.

These skills are categorized based on three licensing levels, ranging from newly licensed through to more experienced senior level brokers.

The skills are further categorized according to basic, intermediate and advances knowledge levels.

The broker skills categories are:

  • Technical
  • Client service & sales
  • Ethics & professionalism
  • Human resources
  • Industry  knowledge
  • Brokerage management

You will have many opportunities to develop these skills through ongoing formal education and on the job experience.
